Despite having my BA and being overqualified for certain positions I still cannot get hired at some companies because they want someone who is “bilingual speaking” only. I have come across more than a few of these job postings that require someone that is fluent in not only English but Spanish as well. So does that mean despite my qualifications and education that these companies will turn me away for a position for someone who may be less qualified but is Spanish speaking. I thought that this was America and that the primary language spoken was English. I am ranting on this topic because, there are so many other immigrants who move to America but they learn to speak English. Yet, Spanish speaking immigrants seem to not make such an effort because of the “bilingual” favoritism that they receive. Please check out the video below which explores this issue. NOTE: Do not take this the wrong way I just feel that this is unfair to job seekers such as myself who get turned down from a job because they aren’t bilingual.

I am so upset about the bilingual only job market now in the United States, particularly here in California. 5 out of 6 job opportunities if you could find that is now Bilingual (spanish/english) only. Something should be done, this is discrimination! If the company only primarily does business with Mexico or a spanish speaking country that would be understandable but this is not the case. It is because so many illegals are getting the jobs, that or of course their children. I understood that to get citizenship in the U.S. you had to speak english. I am shocked that nothing, no bill or mandate is being set forth to stop this. Here where I live, practically any business you walk into is 90% mexican employees. Also a great many companies if they do hire indivuals that only speak english they are paid less that the bilingual employees. Wow, what a mess and when will this be stopped?
